Interview With 'Hail The Hatter'

Firstly, introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about the band and how you came to be?

Well thanks for giving us this opportunity to talk with your readers. We are Hail the Hatter, we have Jonathan Boos on Vocals, Dax Cartar on Guitars, Nicholai Assam on Drums, Aaron Lowchewtung on Bass, and Nicholas Marsan on Harmonies. Basically the band started when Jonathan reached out to a friend to find out if he knew any musicians who were available to start a band. Jonathan had just moved back to Trinidad from Florida where had been living for forteen years. While in Florida he had sung in several bands and had been missing the creative process of being in a band since he had returned home. His friend put him in touch with Dax Cartar. Once Dax and Jonathan got in a room together they both realized that they had the same vision for what was missing in Modern Rock music. They both found the Modern Rock was missing the fun, energy, and showmanship which had been it's trademark, and which had made it popular in the first place. Since they shared this vision, they deiced to form a band that would exemplify all of these qualities. That was the beginning of the band. Very soon Nicholai joined on drums and our original bassist Devin Harry Paul. The first five songs came to us quickly, and we started planning to record. Unfortunately due to personal reasons Devin had to leave the band. Aaron quickly joined the band. A sixth song followed and we headed into the studio.

What were you all up too prior to the band, was this always the chosen path or did you have other dreams and aspirations?

All the members of the band have long careers in music. Life being what it is, we all have day jobs outside of music, but music has always been the dream.

Tell us about your latest EP and why our readers should check it out.

Our latest EP is called "Discovering Light" and it can be downloaded for FREE for a limited time on our website www.hailthehatter.com. We are really proud of the work we have done on the album. We believe each song holds the spirit of what we set out too do, but no two songs on the album sound alike. Each song is its own individual. On the album you will find songs that will make you drive your car too fast, songs that will take you on an adventure, songs that will have you singing along. But every song will have you banging your head, pumping your fists, and just loving Rock 'n' Roll. And you'll probably party too hard and drink too much along with it.

Have you ever come face to face with someone within the music scene who has left you awestruck and why?

Jonathan was once lucky enough to go back stage at an Ozzy Osbourne concert and meet Ozzy. He nearly got his ass kicked by Ozzy's bouncers when he hugged Ozzy without asking permission. But the Ozzman was cool and stopped his bouncers and hugged Jonathan back. He also once got to drink backstage with Zakk Wylde.

If we were to head out to one of your live shows what can ourselves and others expect?

Well first of all we are a ten drink minimum band. So if you're not prepared to do that it's going to be a rough night for you. But other that that, at our shows we can promise you a good old fashoined Rock 'n' Roll party. You will bang your head till your neck screams in pain (One of the reasons you need to drink so much). Your spirit will soar, and you will bask in the unending glow of Metal/Rock 'n' Roll brotherhood.

If you had one artist/band that you could go on tour with tomorrow who would it be and why?

Hmmmmmm this could be long. Of our influences who are still playing today Guns N' Roses, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, and Metallica. But there a lot of guys out there now we think would be awesome to tour with, like Rival Sons, Greta Van Fleet, Code Orange, Avatar, In This Moment, and a whole heap load more.

You can spend an hour with a musical icon living or dead, who would you pick, why and what would you speak about?

That's a tough one. I know everyone here would say so many different people. But I guess we will give this one too Dax, and if he had too pick just one it would probably be Slash. Slash has been a huge influence, and we know he would love to sit with him and just absorb whatever lessons he could from him. Dax never stops trying to grow his artform, and anything he can learn to better his playing, he will do it.

And finally and most importantly is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?

Not only is it a Christmas movie, but our bassist throws a Die Hard & Pork party every Christmas. We feel a special affinity too that movie, because our music just like that movie will make you scream Yippie Ki Yay Motherf*%#er!!!!!!!!!
