Belmondo Release Video For New Single 'Bethlehem'
Rising alternative quartet, Belmondo have shared their crushingly captivating new single “Bethlehem”. The track (produced and mixed by Jag Jago (The Maccabees, Jamie T, The Magic Gang) with mastering from Grant Berry (Deaf Havana, James and The Cold Gun, All Time Low) swirls grunge and industrial styles into an unrelentingly mystical spiritual soundscape. “Bethlehem” is just a taste of the brilliance from their forthcoming debut EP, “The Blessed and The Evil”, set for release in April through Silent Cult.
“Bethlehem” arrives with a David Lynch-like body horror-esque music video. Stunning and surreal, the urgency and fast-paced nature of the video unveil the darker side of desire, exploring chaotic and primal instincts, repressed emotions, and toxic love revealing two sides of the same coin.
About the inspiration behind "Bethlehem," Carmen Mellino (Vocals/Bass) shares,
"I'd just come home from a fight that'd tired me out emotionally. Initially, I was trying to cram a big 'fuck you' into a song, but it shape-shifted into a mystical outcry that became 'Bethlehem.' It's more personal than anything I've written, a confession that felt more like an exorcism, overwhelming and cathartic."
She continues,
“the phrase "I repent for the Blessed and the Evil" serves as the namesake of the EP, encapsulating the spirit of all four tracks. Mellino explains, "It represents my remorses on either side. It's the acknowledgment that you can't have one without the other, telling me they've always been one and the same."
