Can't Swim - 'Someone Who Isn't Me' EP Review

Tracklist:

1. Someone Who isn't You

2. Who's Happy

3. Casey

4. Floor 71

5. Tiny Hands

Can’t Swim are an American band who are clearly not afraid to try things, there is no single musical style that defines this EP, there is a touch of dance, some EMO stylings, some singer songwriter, some Rock and a number of other styles. To them it’s clearly all about the song, not the genre. It’s interesting and intriguing but I personally didn’t manage to connect with it on an emotional level.

I can hear there has been a lot of effort, talent and quality which has gone into each of these songs. I suspect it’s just me who doesn’t get it, there will be plenty who listen to this EP and fully connect with it. That’s why you should give it a listen, there is talent here and a band who will keep experimenting and going off at unexpected tangents.

This kind of experimentation should be encouraged, too many bands are keen to find a sound or genre and stick within it without challenging themselves or seeing where their muse takes them, I don’t think that will ever be a problem for Can’t Swim.

I enjoyed this EP and will keep listening to see if I connect with it on a more emotional level, for now I can appreciate the craftsmanship that the band has put into it.
