Millie Manders And The Shutup – 'Me Too' Single Review
Millie Manders and the Shutup have released the fourth, and final single, from their second album, 'Wake Up, Shut Up and Work' which reached number 2 in the UK rock chart and number 6 in the Independent album chart on its release.
The band have been building a reputation for some time now as a superb live act with a conscience, Millie’s vocals are tremendous and she has always worn her heart very much on her sleeve, I’ve seen them a couple of times now and think they are a very tight act, musically excellent, who are very much driven by a sense of right and wrong with a very charismatic vocalist.
The refrain it doesn’t matter what we wear, it doesn’t matter what we say should be a wake up call to us all, the approach to abuse in this, and other countries, needs to change. Of course, it’s been a constant message for years now, but things change far too slowly.
I’ve not always seen totally eye to eye with the band on all of their views but I am 100% onboard with the message of this song, it’s one I am quite passionate about having been involved with Women’s Aid in the past and knowing much more than I would like to about just what kind of impact the abuse Millie sings about can have on people’s lives.
If you can’t feel the passion of these lyrics, if you can’t get on board with the message then you’re probably not the kind of person I want to get to know.
Proceeds from this release are being donated to a number of charities who support victims of abuse, if that’s not a reason to go download it, find some other way of paying for it or just supporting abuse charities then take a good long hard look at yourself.
We have already been confirmed to review one of the shows in the bands upcoming tour and I’m lucky enough to be the one that will be there, I genuinely can’t wait to sing along with this song, although to be fair, there are a number of other songs I’m also going to be belting out. If you want to see one of the best live acts you will get to see in small venues right now get yourself a ticket for Millie Manders and the Shut Up and support your local venue, you really won’t regret it, soulful, passionate punk rock with a ska element, what more do you want?
