Motionless In White - O2 Academy Birmingham 18.02.2015

Motionless In White

Fit For A King

Motionless in White are in back in the UK as part of their ‘the End of the World’ tour, a tour that is their biggest ever run of headline shows that they’ve ever done in Europe. It promises to be a big one! They bring with them Fit for a King and Brand of Sacrifice.

Unfortunately due to traffic and the time it took to collect my photo pass I missed out on seeing Brand of Sacrifice, but I just about made it intime to be in the photo pit for Fit for a King. These guys certainly bring the heat, with some face melting riffs, especially with opening song 'Backbreaker'. I must admit to not having known too much about them before seeing them tonight, but I will certainly be looking out for them in future. Guitarist Daniel Gailey and bassist Ryan O'Leary are a joy to photograph as they both jump and spin their way around the stage plenty. Great start to the evening!

If you’ve ever been to a sold out show at Birmingham’s O2 Academy you’ll know that they cram everyone in there like sardines. I’ve always thought they oversell the tickets to this venue and tonight is no exception. As we wait for Motionless to take to stage we have dance classics blaring over the speakers with the likes of Cascada and of course Darude’s “Sandstorm” getting everybody in the mood. Just imagine 2000+ sweaty goths bouncing along to these club classics, it’s quite a sight to behold!

Finally the lights go down and Motionless arrive taking no prisoners, it’s 0-100 very quick with ‘Meltdown’ being the opener. It’s been a big couple of years for Motionless in White with the release of their new album ‘Scoring the End of the World’ and also with them celebrating 10 years of their classic ‘Reincarnate’ as well. The setlist reflects this with a decent amount of songs from both albums. With highlights including 'Masterpiece' and 'Contemptress' from those records. I must admit to being disappointed not to hear 'Break the Cycle' though, that's a banger.

Chris Motionless has such an aura about him, he has a stage presence that you think only a rock legend far beyond his years could command, he just owns it up there. The rest of the set is made up of some of their more well known songs. 'Soft' has to be one of the most misleading song titles ever as the song is anything but that, it nearly causes a riot in the mosh pits. Then its onto my personal favourite 'Another Life' which can only be described as magical. Finally the night is brought to an end with 'Eternally Yours', in spectacular fashion. A band that go from strength to strength, what a fantastic show Motionless In White have put on tonight!
