My name is Andrew, I suffer from anxiety, depression and undiagnosed ADHD.
RØRY, I just need to say thank you.
You, Ren, Yungblud have given people like me a voice.
I usually write some notes the first time I get something to review, RØRY was different. I sat there with goosebumps, crying, shouting hell yes and wishing there was more people telling the truth of mental health struggles.
Stylistically I’m reminded of My Chemical Romance and for some reason I have “Hope For The Underrated Youth” by Yungblud running in my head. I first saw RØRY when they appeared on my social media in reels about ADHD, I didn’t realise that they sang to. I saw a clip of them playing live but wasn’t sure if they were my cup of tea, how wrong could I be?
One of my favourite things about 'Restoration' is the unapologetic no holds barred honesty of it, nothing is sugar coated, and ADHD is not described as a superpower, because it bloody ISN’T. It’s hard work, it’s not something you can switch off, sometimes it is just too much, RØRY tells it like this.
The album has a varied set of songs, sometimes I’m getting The Cranberries, I’m getting the anger of Delilah Bon. 'Blossom' is probably my favourite track, it’s brutal, it’s beautiful, it’s honest. I want to hug RØRY, but part of that is because I want a hug. I waited two days to have a second listen to the album, it impacted me that much. If you are free from mental health issues this album is still for you, the songs are well crafted, performed and sound lovely. If you require a dopamine hit, this album is definitely for you, you get one when you purchase it, another the first time you play it.
So, to recap: 'Restoration' is angry, sad, joyful, thought provoking, varied and beautiful. Oh my, “One Drink Away” has just come on, give me a minute….
RØRY – 'Restoration' gets 5 stars from me and is an early candidate for album of 2025.
