Sugababes - Aintree Racecourse 19.05.2023
Turns out you don’t need to be a betting man to enjoy the races! We were invited along to see Sugababes headline Aintree Racecourse to prove it.
Before the show even started, the party at Aintree was already in full swing. As I made my way about the crowd people were already asking me to take their picture. I met some lovely people, had a laugh, and got some great shots in the process. This was definitely one of the most fun and best-dressed crowds I’ve ever captured at a gig!
I had seen Sugababes live several times over the years, but never in their original line-up. Although Liverpool’s Heidi Range saw the group through more mainstream success in the 2000s, it was exciting to finally see Keisha, Mutya and Siobhán take the stage together. The iconic girl group reunited in 2012 under the name MKS but won back the rights to the Sugababes name in 2019. Their set at Aintree was packed with fan favourites; 'Overload', 'Freak Like Me' and 'Hole in the Head' to name a few. But the 2003 hit T'oo Lost in You' will always be a personal favourite of mine. I couldn’t help but notice most of these songs didn’t start life under the original line-up, but I loved hearing a fresh take on them with Siobhán’s vocals. They ended the night with 'Round Round' and the 2007 hit, 'About You Now'.
Overall, Aintree put on a fantastic night with a fun atmosphere. If you want to try a day at the races like this for yourself, Pete Tong will be bringing Ibiza Classics there on the 16th of June.
These gigs and more are hosted by The Jockey Club Live, who are bringing live music to racecourses across the UK this summer. You can visit their website [https://www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/live/events-tickets/] to see what’s going on in your area.
