Sydney Sprague - 'Underwater Boi' Single Review
Sydney Sprague has released her cover of Turnstiles 'Underwater Boi' from the charity album 'Changing Tides' which is to benefit Sea Shepherd, it’s the fifth single release from the album and the second Sydney sings on.
Sydney’s own album 'Somebody In Hell Loves You' is out now and she’s currently on tour in the US at a very large number of venues, go listen if you can.
So what’s it like, it’s lush, there is no other word for it, it’s a chilled out indie rock version of the song that envelops you, draws you in and makes you wish it lasted longer.
The singing is poignant, but never less than emotionally engaged with the lyrics. The arrangement works well and the whole thing is like diving into a warm swimming pool, somewhat apt given the name of the song but it doesn’t shy away from the lyrics, you get straight off that Sydney gets the song and what it means but she inhabits it in her own way and makes it her own.
As I said it’s lush, if the rest of the album is as good as this, and given it’s for a good cause, I’d say it’s worth downloading. I’m also going to check out Sydney’s own album off the back of this.
